Coach safety guidelines: Good practices to adopt during your journey

The trip to coach is much more than a simple journey from point A to point B: it's a collective adventure. Sharing the same space for several hours requires both adherence to strict safety rules and a good dose of courtesy.

Beyond the equipment and the driver's professionalism, safety is also a matter of common sense once on board. Adopting the right reflexes helps prevent accidents inside the vehicle and ensures smooth traffic flow when needed.

In this article, Francebus gives you advice on how to ensure your safety and that of others.

I. What to do before departure and during the ascent? (Preparation)

A successful trip begins long before the engine starts. Anticipation is key to a stress-free departure.

1. Prepare for your arrival 📍

Please present yourself at the meeting point. 15 to 20 minutes before departure time. This gives you time to find the bus parking spot precisely, load your luggage without rushing, and makes it easier for the driver to stick to the schedule.

2. Secure handling of your hand luggage 🧳

The central aisle of the coach must remain clear at all times. Luggage left in the middle of the aisle poses a significant risk of falling for other passengers and can hinder an emergency evacuation.

Where should we place them? Your small bags and backpacks must be stored in the compartments above your heads (the luggage racks) or slid under the seat in front of you.

👉 Heavy objects: Any bulky or very heavy luggage must be placed in the coach's luggage compartment before departure.

3. Make boarding easier🚶

Whether you board our coach or any other vehicle in the fleet, keep your ID handy from the moment you join the queue. Once inside, take your seat quickly so as not to block the central aisle.

II. Safety on board, the golden rule (Protection)

Comfort is important, but safety remains the top priority. The equipment on board is there to protect you, provided you use it correctly.

1. The click that saves and ensures your safety 🔗

It is a legal obligation and a vital necessity: the seat belt must be fastened as soon as you are seated, and for the entire duration of the journey.

2. Keep the central aisle of the coach clear 🆓

The coach aisle is not a storage area. Do not leave any bags or jackets lying around, and avoid stretching your legs out on it. A clear aisle prevents the risk of falls and ensures rapid evacuation in case of emergency.

3. Travel along the way 🚶

For obvious safety reasons, it is strongly recommended to remain seated and buckled up while the vehicle is moving. If you absolutely must get up (for example, to go to the toilet, if the coach is equipped with one), do so with the greatest care. great caution. Hold on tight to handles located on the seat backs or grab bars to anticipate potential braking or turns.

III. The "art of travel" (Comfort for all)

Respecting everyone's peace and quiet transforms a long journey into a relaxing experience. A few simple gestures make all the difference.

1. Create your own sound bubble 🎧

The bus is a shared space where silence is often greatly appreciated, especially during early morning or evening journeys. Always use headphones to listen to music or watch a movie, and speak in a low voice if you need to make a call.

2. The art of reclining your seat 💺

This is a classic example of minor travel conflicts! Before reclining your seat, always glance behind you to make sure you're not don't pinch your neighbor's knees behind you or not to spill your coffee.

3. Managing the snack break 🥪

If you're feeling a bit peckish, opt for the cold, dry snacks with no strong odor. Also, remember to put your waste in a small plastic bag or use the bins provided on board.

IV. Breaks and Arrival (Vigilance)

Stops at rest areas or arrivals at destinations require a final dose of concentration to ensure everything goes perfectly.

1. Respecting the stopwatch ⏱️

During breaks, the driver always announces a precise departure time or the duration of the stop. Be punctual. A late passenger penalizes the entire group.

2. The moment of descent 🚏

Do not unbuckle your seatbelt or stand up until the coach has come to a complete stop. Take a moment to check that you haven't left anything on your seat or in the storage net (phone, glasses, wallet).

Finally, a simple "thank you" or "goodbye" to the driver is always the best way to end the trip.

V. What to do in case of an emergency stop? 🚨

If the driver is forced to perform an emergency braking maneuver or pull over to the side of the road following an incident (breakdown, road hazard):

  • Stay calm and in your place: Do not get up and keep your seatbelt fastened until the vehicle has come to a complete stop.
  • Listen to the instructions: The driver is trained to handle these situations. Wait for their specific instructions before taking any action.
  • The evacuation: If an evacuation is ordered, leave your luggage inside, calmly make your way to the doors or emergency exits (signposted by illuminated signs or window-breaking hammers) and take safety behind the safety barriers or away from the traffic lanes.
